Bangalore Profile

Welcome to Bangalore - The Silicon Valley of India!

Bangalore or Bengaluru is a city of science and technology, culture and tradition and more profoundly is called the Information Technology (IT) hub of the country. During the past two decades, the city has emerged as a foremost destination for the people living with computers. All IT related multinational companies have set up their India head office at Bangalore. Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister termed this city as "India's city of the future". It is ranked among one of the fastest growing cities in Asia and presently the fifth largest city of India.

The city was founded in the 16th century which witnessed great southern dynasties like the Kadambas, the Hoysalas and Vijayanagar emperors. The name “Bangalore” has been derived from "boiled beans" (Benda Kaluru), which was served by a humble old lady to a hungry ruler in the 10th century.

Bangalore, also known as the "Garden city" of India is an incredible fusion of the old and new that occupies a separate position in the tourism map of the country. The bracing climate and the abundance of greenery have made this city a hot destination for travel and tourism in the country. The people of this city are tradition bound and celebrate every religious and cultural festival with great enthusiasm.

People of Bangalore have a serene conduct and are tolerant. Bangalore’s pleasant climate and laid back charm have attracted many senior citizens to settle in the city after their retirement and it has thus later on come to be called as "the retired man's paradise". It is now called as the Pub City with over 200 Pubs all over the town.

Today, Bangalore is home to some of the most high-tech industries of the world. The city houses some of the country’s pioneer scientific establishments like ISRO, IISc, National Aerospace Laboratories and Indian Institute of Astrophysics etc. It is gaining the status of the "Floriculture Capital of India" due to its capacity in exporting flower to different parts of the world.

Bangalore…the floral capital…Yours to discover…
